Maine High School Ultimate League (MEHUL)

Tourney Date: 04/07/2010 - 05/30/2010
Summary

Maine High School Ultimate League

Welcome to the Maine High School Ultimate League (MEHUL). The primary goal of MEHUL is to provide a structure to facilitate and encourage Ultimate as a spring sport for high schools in Maine. The season will include seven prescheduled games, one indoor tournament, one league-wide group practice and the State Championships. The winner and second place finisher at States will go on to represent Maine in the New England Regional High School Championships in June.

Games are scheduled at the Cumberland County Fair Grounds (CCFG) on Wednesdays, at 3:30pm. Games will be played to 13 (win by 2) with a hard cap at 5:00pm, unless agreed upon otherwise by both teams. The schedule and playing fields are provided for convenience only. Teams wishing to reschedule or relocate games are responsible for making arrangements with their opponent in advance. Teams will be asked to report scores so team standings can be submitted to a local newspaper each week.

The League fee (due May 1) is $150 per team, including seven games, the April 10 indoor tournament and a league-wide practice on April 21 (vacation week). See below regarding the State Championships. In addition to the League fee, each team will need to submit a team roster using the UPA Sanctioned Event Roster, available online at http://www.upa.org/files/2010Sanctioning_Roster.pdf.

Individual players who plan to play the regular season but do NOT want to play in the State Championships will also need to pay $5 and sign the UPA One-Time Event & Waiver Form, available online at (http://www.upa.org/files/EventFee&WaiverForm.pdf), OR;

Individual players who plan to play the regular season AND in the State Championships will need to join the UPA for $20 (youth membership rate) and sign the UPA Membership, Waiver & Release of Liability Form, available online at http://www.upa.org/files/2010MembershipWaiverFormv2.pdf.

Each individual player will also have to submit a signed UPA Medical Authorization Form, available online at http://www.upa.org/files/Medical_Authorization_Form_V1.5.pdf. These forms should travel with each team to all games. This form authorizes designated Chaperones to seek medical help if needed.

Team Chaperones (coaches, parents, teachers, or anyone 18 or older who is a high school graduate) are responsible for keeping the Medical Authorization Forms and submitting a UPA Chaperone Form to the UPA, available online at http://www.upa.org/files/Chaperone_Form_V3.0_v2.pdf.

All Maine high school teams are invited to play at the 2010 State Championships on May 30 at the Fairgrounds (MEHUL participation is NOT required). Each team will need to pay an additional $125 to play in the State Championships AND submit a UPA HS State Championship Roster, available online at http://www.upa.org/files/2010%20HS%20State%20Championship%20Roster.pdf. The UPA provides an online tool for importing the UPA Sanctioned Event Roster (used by the League) into a States Roster.

Six teams are anticipated in the Spring 2010 League, but additional teams are welcome to join at any time. The fee will remain the same no matter when in the season a team joins. ALL HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS IN MAINE (including non-MEHUL teams) are welcome to arrange games outside of the League Schedule, and should make arrangements with individual team coaches and captains, listed below. Many teams have their own fields available and the Fairgrounds may also be available at times.

Fields: Each team should bring its own cones to each game and plan to mark the field themselves (corners will be pre-painted). An official field is 70 yards long x 40 yards wide, with 25 yard end zones, making the whole field 120 yards long by 40 yards wide. If both teams agree, any field size will work.
